Historic Psychiatry Breakthrough: Single-Dose LSD Drug Successfully Treats Severe Depression

A potential paradigm shift in treating major depressive disorder is on the horizon with the announcement of groundbreaking Phase 3 trial results for a new drug derived from LSD. Developed by New York-based biopharmaceutical company Definium Therapeutics, the drug, named 'DT120 ODT,' is a pharmaceutically optimized form of LSD designed to offer a novel approach to mental health treatment.

The clinical research, published in the journal Genome Medicine and prominent databases, involved 149 patients aged 18 to 74 with severe depression across 20 medical centers. The randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study tracked patients' mental states using the Montgomery-Åsberg Depression Rating Scale (MADRS). DT120 ODT, described as an advanced example of the classic serotonergic psychedelic class, rapidly activates serotonin receptors directly in the brain due to its fast-dissolving oral formulation.

Official safety reports indicate no increase in suicidal ideation among patients receiving the drug, and no new systemic safety risks were reported. Clinical psychologists and neurologists noted that 99% of observed side effects were mild or moderate and temporary, occurring only on the first day of administration.
