Ho Chi Minh City - Moc Bai Expressway Project Costs Rise by VND 3.358 Trillion Due to Land Compensation Adjustments

Ho Chi Minh City's ambitious project to construct the Ho Chi Minh City - Moc Bai expressway is facing a significant cost increase, with the total investment for land compensation and site clearance rising by VND 3.358 trillion. This adjustment, detailed in a submission by the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, highlights the complexities and escalating expenses involved in major infrastructure development.

As reported by Thanh Niên, the primary drivers for this increased investment are the ongoing reviews and updates by local authorities regarding affected individuals and properties. The initial cost estimations, made in 2024, have proven to be insufficient as a more comprehensive assessment of compensation, support, and resettlement needs has been conducted for 2025. This is a common challenge in large-scale projects where unforeseen issues and the need to ensure fairness for residents inevitably lead to budget revisions.

The proposed adjustments see the investment for project component 3 rising by VND 1.113 trillion to VND 6.383 trillion, and component 4 increasing by VND 2.245 trillion to VND 3.749 trillion. The authorities emphasize that these increases are objective and necessary to safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of citizens whose land is being acquired. Furthermore, securing social consensus and accelerating the land handover process are crucial for keeping the project on schedule.
