Holiday prices surge a week before vacation season

Tour prices are rising sharply for departures in early August, just a week before the main holiday season begins. The average price for a trip between August 3 and 9 increased by 39 Polish zloty last week, according to the Traveldata Market Research Institute, which tracks tens of thousands of offers from major tour operators.

While a 39 zloty increase might seem small, it follows a trend of rising prices. Last week saw an 11 zloty increase, preceded by fluctuations including a 50 zloty rise and a 49 zloty drop. The institute notes that price hikes have generally outnumbered decreases recently. This surge is attributed to higher organizer costs, strong customer demand, and the approaching holiday dates.

Certain destinations experienced more significant price jumps. The Chalcidice Peninsula saw an average increase of 387 zloty, Tenerife rose by 303 zloty, and Mallorca by 175 zloty. Conversely, prices dropped for holidays to Kos (down 119 zloty), Zakynthos (down 110 zloty), and Morocco (down 93 zloty).

Looking at popular destinations for Poles, average prices increased across the board. The Canary Islands saw a 142 zloty rise, Bulgaria 24 zloty, and Turkey, Greece, and Egypt experienced modest increases of 7, 6, and 2 zloty respectively. Compared to last year, the average holiday price is 291 zloty higher. Lanzarote, Morocco, and Corfu have seen the largest year-on-year price hikes at 1159, 774, and 705 zloty, respectively. Conversely, Malta experienced the steepest annual price drop at 1130 zloty, with Sardinia and Sicily also seeing significant decreases.
