Holiday Return Traffic Grinds to a Halt on Romania's Main Routes

Major roads leading back to Bucharest are experiencing severe congestion as holidaymakers return from the coast and mountain resorts. Traffic is particularly heavy on the DN1, A2 (Sun Motorway), and DN7 routes, with authorities describing conditions as "bar to bar" in some sections. The Infotrafic Center of the Romanian General Inspectorate of the Police reported high traffic volumes on Sunday, August 16. On the DN1, between Brașov and Ploiești, queues have formed, especially on the lanes heading towards Bucharest. Police have set up information points to guide drivers. Alternative routes suggested by police include the DN1A, DN73, and DN71 to bypass the worst of the jams. The A2 highway also faces significant delays between Cernavodă and Fetești. Although an accident involving four cars occurred near Fetești, it resulted only in material damage and was cleared to the emergency lane, not obstructing traffic. Authorities are urging drivers to consider alternative routes for the A2 as well, providing options that involve national roads and even a ferry crossing on the Danube.
