Home Affairs Ministry Holds Workshop to Expand Scholarship Access Abroad for Civil Servants

The Indonesian Ministry of Home Affairs, through its Center for Cooperation Facilitation, is organizing a workshop focused on training and overseas scholarships for civil servants (PNS) within the ministry and regional governments (Pemda).

The workshop aims to boost the competence of civil servants by broadening their access to international training and scholarship opportunities. This effort is expected to create more avenues for civil servants to develop their capabilities on a global scale, thereby strengthening professional and competitive government administration.

Bahtra Banong, Deputy Chairman of Commission II of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), highlighted the significance of enhancing the capacity of State Civil Apparatus (ASN) as a cornerstone for achieving Indonesia's "Golden Indonesia 2045" vision. He stated that transforming government administration requires competitive, adaptive, innovative, and globally competitive civil servants.

Bahtra further explained that ASN capacity building must align with bureaucratic reform, which includes simplifying regulations, leveraging information technology, and implementing transparent, accountable, effective, and efficient governance. Law Number 20 of 2023 concerning ASN provides various schemes for competency development, such as training, seminars, study tours, short courses, overseas scholarships, internships, fellowships, and employee exchanges. These programs are crucial for accelerating the improvement of civil servant quality and reducing competency gaps. Studying abroad is seen as a way to gain new perspectives and best practices that can be applied to governance in Indonesia, fostering innovation and strengthening public services.

ASNs who study abroad are expected to return as agents of change, bringing best practices to strengthen the quality of policies, governance, and public services in Indonesia.
