West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi Overtakes President Prabowo in Electability Survey

West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi has emerged as the leading figure in a new political survey, overtaking incumbent President Prabowo Subianto in electability. The findings from Saiful Mujani Research and Consulting (SMRC), released on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, indicate a notable shift in public preference.

Mulyadi secured a commanding 35% of the vote in the survey, while President Subianto garnered 14.5%. This marks the first time Mulyadi has surpassed his Gerindra party leader in SMRC's polling during Subianto's presidency. The survey presented respondents with a list of 20 potential presidential candidates, allowing them to suggest others not on the list.

At least 11 figures achieved an electability rating above 1%. Following Mulyadi and Subianto are Anies Baswedan (8.2%), Gibran Rakabuming Raka (7.7%), Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (4.9%), Ganjar Pranowo (4.2%), Mahfud MD (4.0%), Puan Maharani (1.3%), Sherly Tjoanda Laos (1.2%), Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa (1.1%), and Surya Paloh (1.0%). Approximately 4.0% of respondents chose other candidates, while 12.8% were undecided or refused to answer.

The SMRC survey involved 749 randomly selected respondents representing Indonesia's voting population. Interviews were conducted via telephone for 83.8% of participants and face-to-face for the remaining 16.2%, reflecting the proportions of mobile phone users and non-users. The survey boasts a margin of error of approximately 3.7% with a 95% confidence level. SMRC previously accurately predicted the Prabowo-Gibran ticket's victory in the 2024 presidential election.
