Homes Evacuated in Aleksandrovac After Bridge Construction Site Collapse

Residents of Aleksandrovac, Serbia, were forced to evacuate two homes after a significant sinkhole appeared on a street overnight. The collapse occurred at a bridge construction site, causing a large section of land to slide and swallow a construction truck. Fortunately, no injuries were reported in the incident.

Local police confirmed that the truck belonging to the construction contractor fell into the hole. The Basic Public Prosecutor's Office in Brus has ordered an immediate on-site inspection by a labor safety inspector and the construction inspection department. They will also review the project's construction documentation to determine responsibilities and compliance with regulations.

The President of the Municipality of Aleksandrovac, Jelena Paunović, stated that responsibility for the landslide lies with the investor and the contractor, though she did not name them. Public records indicate that the public enterprise "Putevi Srbije" (Roads of Serbia) is the investor for the project. The incident caused material damage to the parked construction vehicle and a pedestrian bridge.
