Hong Joon-pyo: 'Flower wreath shows' and bulletin board manipulation worse than Kim Keon-hee

Former Daegu Mayor Hong Joon-pyo has launched a scathing attack on independent lawmaker Han Dong-hoon and his wife, accusing them of orchestrating "flower wreath shows" and manipulating public opinion. Hong specifically targeted the couple's alleged involvement in controversial incidents related to the party's online bulletin board and past events.

In a Facebook post, Hong stated, "Anyone who leads a flower wreath show in front of the Seocho-dong Prosecutor's Office building, manipulates public opinion, and when caught, is kicked out of a mom cafe, then moves to the party bulletin board to continue manipulating public opinion – a person worse than Kim Keon-hee is secretly working behind the scenes, and the country will fall into greater chaos."

Hong further warned against the recurrence of figures like "the second Kim Keon-hee," referring to historical figures known for captivating rulers and causing national ruin. He implied that such individuals operating covertly could destabilize the nation. While Hong did not explicitly name Han Dong-hoon or his wife, Jin Eun-jeong, the references to the "flower wreath show" and the "party bulletin board" clearly pointed to them.

The "flower wreath show" likely refers to the period in December 2016 when flower wreaths and baskets were sent to the office of the special prosecutor appointed for the state affairs corruption case. Jang Ye-chan, former deputy director of the Korea Institute of Future Strategies, claimed in late 2024 that Jin Eun-jeong led an "order to send flower baskets" to the Park Young-soo special prosecutor's team from a private mom cafe in 2017 while concealing her identity. Additionally, in November 2024, posts criticizing former President Yoon Suk-yeol and pro-Yoon factions appeared on the People Power Party's bulletin board under the names of Han and his family, leading to Han's expulsion from the party by its ethics committee in January.
