Former Daegu Mayor Hong Joon-pyo has vocally protested the ongoing investigations into allegations of vote-buying and other suspicions surrounding him and his associates. Hong expressed his strong opposition on Facebook, stating, "I am not as naive as Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon to be tricked like this." He warned that legal action would be pursued against those involved in what he termed "defamatory investigations" and urged adherence to legal procedures.

Hong vehemently denied any involvement with the individual at the center of the allegations, identified as Myung Tae-gyun. "I knew who Myung Tae-gyun was, so I never met him, nor did I ever involve him in any of my elections," Hong stated. He characterized the case as the failed attempt of a political aspirant to enter politics through Myung Tae-gyun, with the only connection being a coincidental acquaintance between the aspirant's family member and someone close to Hong.

Adding to his defiance, Hong had previously suggested he might re-register as a lawyer to counter what he described as "police tyranny." He stated his intention to reclaim his legal title, even though he had planned to live as an unemployed individual. He also addressed the investigation into volunteers who supported his election campaign, demanding the police summon him directly instead of harassing his supporters. "Stop this sordid and petty behavior," he urged, asserting that the investigations would yield no incriminating evidence.
