Hopa hosts 'NATO Summit' protest: 'This country is ours, NATO get out'

In Hopa, a coastal district in Turkey's Black Sea region, a coalition of labor and democracy groups gathered to protest the upcoming NATO Summit in Ankara. Under slogans like "NATO protects mining companies, not us" and "NATO, get out," the demonstrators marched through Hopa Park, voicing their opposition to the alliance's presence and policies.

Fatma Biçer, speaking on behalf of the Hopa-Kemalpaşa-Arhavi Labor and Democracy Forces, delivered a press statement criticizing the Turkish government's eagerness to host the summit. Biçer argued that this enthusiasm stems not from hospitality but from a desire to align with U.S. strategic plans. She accused the U.S. and NATO of orchestrating conflicts in regions like Libya, Palestine, and Ukraine, and of seeking to increase arms production globally, turning Turkey into a weapons manufacturing hub.

The protest also targeted the preparations for the summit in Ankara, which included road closures and cosmetic urban improvements. Biçer likened these efforts to the actions of a colonial governor preparing to host his imperialist masters. She asserted that the true owners of the land are its people, who are engaged in a daily struggle for their rights and who will defend their homeland against invaders and collaborators.

The U.S. and its administration, which have turned Libya, Palestine, Lebanon, Yemen, and Ukraine into pools of blood, are preparing to implement their new plans through NATO.

Concluding the demonstration, Biçer called for continued struggle against NATO and its war policies, emphasizing that the only way to defeat imperialist forces is through sustained resistance. The protesters reiterated their message, "NATO get out, this country is ours," underscoring their commitment to national sovereignty and self-determination.
