Hospital Accidentally Sends Sensitive Child Welfare Case Details to Wrong Recipient

A woman in Norway received sensitive documents pertaining to a child welfare case that she had no connection with, after Oslo University Hospital (OUS) mistakenly sent her the information. The error occurred when the hospital was responding to a complaint the woman had filed regarding her own case.

Upon opening the digital response from OUS, the woman discovered two attachments. One contained information related to her complaint, as expected. However, the second attachment detailed a child welfare case involving a child completely unknown to her. This unexpected inclusion has caused the woman significant distress and concern.

She voiced her worries about the security of the sensitive information and questioned whether it was being handled appropriately. The incident raises serious questions about data protection protocols at the hospital and the potential risks associated with mishandling confidential information, particularly concerning vulnerable individuals like children.
