Hossam Hassan, who was appointed head coach in February 2024, guided the Pharaohs to the semi-finals of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). His tenure has been marked by historic achievements, including Egypt's first-ever victory on the World Cup stage. The team secured a 3-1 win against New Zealand in Group G, followed by a penalty shootout triumph over Australia in the Round of 32, marking their first knockout stage win in the tournament's history.

Despite their progress, Egypt's journey in the World Cup concluded in the quarter-finals with a narrow 2-3 loss to the eventual champions, Argentina. The EFA, led by President Hany Abo Rida, announced the contract renewal for both Hassan and team director Ibrahim Hassan.
