Hotel executive Liao Kuo-hung, heir to the third generation of the F Hotel group, dies suddenly at 55

Liao Kuo-hung, a third-generation successor to Taiwan’s F Hotel group and former chairman of the Taichung F Hotel, has reportedly died at 55 after more than 10 days of emergency treatment.

Liao suffered convulsions on Aug. 15 and was taken to hospital, where doctors removed a blood clot from his brain. People in the tourism industry said the bleeding was in the brain stem and could not be treated with surgery. His condition remained critical in intensive care as doctors tried to save him, but he reportedly died after more than 10 days. Employees and members of Taipei’s Shunfeng Society told the newspaper the news was genuine. The F Hotel group had not confirmed the death or issued a public announcement.

Born in 1971, Liao was the eldest son of Liao Chung-hsin, known as the family’s seventh son, and a member of the family of founder Liao Chin-fu. He took over the group’s core management in 2021 and pushed renovations and digital transformation at the long-established hotel chain.

Liao had served as chairman of both the Taipei and Taichung F hotels and as president of Taipei’s Shunfeng Society. People in the hotel industry regarded him as one of Taiwan’s leading hotel executives and expressed sorrow over his reported death.
