House Arrest After Calea Victoriei Brawl: Man Aimed for Boyfriend, Hit Girlfriend's Nose Instead

A man in Bucharest faces house arrest following a physical altercation on Calea Victoriei street, during which he punched a woman. Investigators revealed the man's intended target was the woman's boyfriend, but he missed and hit her in the nose.

The Public Ministry announced on Tuesday, June 9, that the man was detained for 24 hours and charged with assault. The following day, a prosecutor requested that the court impose house arrest for 30 days, from June 10 to July 9.

According to investigation sources, the incident occurred on May 30 at 11:15 p.m. The woman was in a car with her boyfriend on Calea Victoriei in Sector 1 of the capital. The boyfriend honked at the car in front of him. The accused, who was on the street with several other people, some holding wine glasses, apparently believed the honking was directed at them and threw wine from his glass at the car.

A verbal exchange ensued between the drivers. The accused then exited his vehicle with his partner. At that moment, the accused attempted to punch the driver in the face but missed, striking the victim in the nose. She suffered a nasal pyramid fracture, which will require 12-14 days to heal.
