House demands Trump withdraw from Iran conflict

The U.S. House of Representatives has passed a resolution calling on President Donald Trump to cease military operations against Iran, marking another instance of congressional pressure on the Republican president. The War Powers Resolution was adopted with 214 votes in favor and 208 against, with four Republicans joining Democrats in supporting the measure.

The resolution, introduced by Democratic Representative Pramila Jayapal, urges Trump to withdraw U.S. armed forces from hostilities against Iran unless Congress explicitly authorizes continued military action. While the resolution exerts political pressure, it carries limited practical weight. Congress has passed similar measures in recent months, but they have not resulted in the cessation of U.S. military activities.

Republican lawmakers who voted for the resolution include Tom Barrett of Michigan, Brian Fitzpatrick of Pennsylvania, Warren Davidson of Ohio, and Thomas Massie of Kentucky. The vote followed Trump's announcement of intensified attacks on Iran and recent U.S. military casualties.

President Trump had previously vowed "major military punishment" against Iran and its allies after Yemeni fighters attacked two Saudi oil tankers in the Red Sea. U.S. forces had continued nighttime airstrikes on Iran following a temporary truce, while Tehran responded with attacks on U.S. bases in neighboring countries.
