Housing Authority steps up affordable housing supply

Fiji's Housing Authority has significantly boosted affordable housing supply, delivering 267 fully serviced residential lots and completing 101 ready-built model homes during the 2025/2026 financial year. This effort aligns with the government's broader strategy to expand home ownership opportunities for Fijians.

Minister for Housing Maciu Nalumisa highlighted the Authority's mandate to help workers and families secure suitable accommodation at the lowest reasonable cost. The focus has been on increasing supply, resuming direct construction of homes after a three-decade hiatus, improving access to financing, formalizing informal settlements, and advancing major residential developments.

Notable achievements include the completion of the Nepani and Davuilevu subdivisions. At Nepani Phase One, 174 lots were delivered, and all 101 model homes were finished. The first 31 families received keys in July, with an average annual household income of $28,814. Notably, 68 percent of these families earn up to $30,000 annually, demonstrating the program's focus on lower-income households. The remaining Nepani homes are undergoing loan processing, with expected possession in September.

Further development is underway at Davuilevu, where 93 serviced lots were delivered. Additional residential and commercial lots will be made available through an Expression of Interest process via the Authority’s enhanced customer portal. This comprehensive approach aims to address housing needs across various income levels and settlement types.
