How gunmen attacked Kaduna community as military vows to arrest perpetrators

A deadly attack by unidentified gunmen on Naridon Village in Kauru Local Government Area, Kaduna State, has left at least 25 people dead and several others injured, according to local officials. The assault occurred around 12:30 am on Monday while residents were asleep.

Security sources revealed that the attackers unleashed a volley of bullets, targeting residents, and subsequently set fire to houses and looted food supplies. Many villagers were forced to flee their homes and seek safety in the surrounding bushes. While social media reports initially suggested 30 fatalities, local authorities have confirmed 25 deaths, with rescue operations ongoing. Seven individuals sustained varying degrees of injuries.

A local youth leader, Ishaya Dawa, described the attack as unprovoked, noting that the village had been peaceful prior to the incident. He stated that most of the victims were women and children, and several homes were destroyed, displacing families. Authorities have identified 28 victims, including Geoffrey Monday, Maria Pius, Ladi Monday, Deborah Emmanuel, and Sunday Yakubu.

They came shortly before midnight on Sunday and continued till early Monday. Naridon had been peaceful. Most of those killed were women and children. Several homes were destroyed and families have been displaced.

Senior officers from the Nigerian Army, including Major General Abubakar Wase and Major General Maxwell Dangana, visited Naridon Village on Tuesday. The delegation was briefed at Sector 7 Headquarters, Kafanchan, before proceeding to the remote community, a journey that took nearly two hours due to poor road access. This difficult terrain highlights the logistical challenges for emergency responders and security personnel.

Addressing community stakeholders, Major General Dangana offered condolences to the families of the victims and pledged a thorough manhunt for the attackers. He urged residents to cooperate with security agencies by providing timely and credible intelligence, stating, "We are committed to ensuring that those behind this heinous attack are brought to justice."
