Beyond its celebrated art, the museum is dedicated to preserving and promoting the legacy of its founder, the businesswoman and collector Dolores Olmedo, who championed Mexican art and culture on an international stage.

The museum's exhibits span three distinct periods of Mexican history: pre-Hispanic, viceregal (novohispano), and modern art. Visitors can explore a 16th-century estate featuring colonial-era wood carvings and wander through gardens where peacocks and xoloitzcuintles roam. The museum also offers a glimpse into the vision and history of Dolores Olmedo through its activities and exhibitions.

Admission prices for 2026 vary. General admission is set at $432 Mexican pesos. National visitors can purchase tickets for $162 pesos, while students and teachers from Mexico pay $70 pesos. Residents of the Xochimilco borough, seniors, and children under 12 also pay $70 pesos. Entry is free for children under 6 years old. Tickets can be purchased through the Fever platform or at the museum's ticket office.

Beyond the art collections, a museum ticket grants access to various activities, including a plastic arts workshop designed to inspire creativity through painting, drawing inspiration from the museum's collections.
