How Much the Volkswagen Taos Costs in August 2026

The Volkswagen Taos has seen a sharp contraction in sales in Argentina, underperforming the broader automotive market in July. The SUV registered 645 units sold, a 15.6% decrease from June and a substantial 55.4% drop compared to July of the previous year. This performance placed it at 17th among the best-selling light vehicles, capturing only 1.6% of the market share.

This sales downturn coincides with a significant shift in the Taos's supply chain. Production has moved from Volkswagen's General Pacheco plant in Argentina to Mexico. This change in origin has exposed the Taos to altered trade conditions between Argentina and Mexico. Specifically, the expiration of the Economic Complementation Agreement No. 55 on March 18th ended the tariff-free import status for vehicles from Mexico. New operations now face a 35% extra-zone tariff, with only vehicles already in transit at the time of expiration retaining their previous benefit.

In response to these market conditions and likely influenced by the new import tariffs, Volkswagen has applied a 1% price increase to all three versions of the Taos for August. The list price for the base model now starts at $59,248,800. This follows a 2% price hike in July.

All Taos variants are equipped with a 1.4 TSI gasoline engine producing 150 horsepower and 250 Nm of torque, paired with an eight-speed Tiptronic automatic transmission. Standard features include a 10.25-inch digital dashboard, a 10-inch central multimedia screen, wireless charging, and four USB-C ports.

Automakers are concerned that the situation will worsen as existing stock depletes, though major manufacturers express confidence that a resolution will be found before significant price surges or shortages occur. In the first seven months of 2026, the Taos sold 6,343 units in Argentina, a 46.1% decrease compared to the same period in 2025.
