Lawmakers in Nigeria's House of Representatives have summoned the Inspector-General of Police, demanding the immediate appearance of Adeniyi Matthew Adeyemi, the alleged mastermind behind the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC). Adeyemi is expected to appear by noon tomorrow to answer questions regarding the council's establishment and operations.

The Accountant-General of the Federation, Shamsudeen Ogunjimi, informed the committee that a forged letter, purportedly from the State House, was used to secure official government recognition for the PFIPC, also known as the Presidential Economic Advisory Council (PEAC). This revelation highlights serious concerns about the legitimacy and origins of the organization.

Committee chairman Yusuf Gagdi emphasized the gravity of the allegations, stating that individuals' and institutions' integrity are at stake. The committee requires Adeyemi's testimony to verify documents and facilitate the timely submission of their report. Consequently, the clerk was directed to formally request Adeyemi's presence from the Inspector-General of Police.

The committee hereby resolves that the Inspector-General of Police do kindly present Mr. Matthew Adeyemi on Wednesday by noon. That is the ruling of the committee.

Representing the Inspector General, Assistant Commissioner of Police Basir Abdullahi confirmed that criminal investigations are ongoing and that an eight-count charge has already been filed against Adeyemi in the Federal High Court. He cautioned that revealing further details could jeopardize the ongoing investigation and judicial proceedings. Despite this, the committee pressed for confirmation of documentary evidence, underscoring the urgency and seriousness with which they are pursuing the matter.

The Nigerian Police Force investigated part of this case late last year and filed eight-count charges before a Federal High Court. The case is ongoing.
