How to reach Cozumel by plane or ferry

Cozumel is one of Mexico’s Caribbean beach destinations, combining turquoise waters, white-sand beaches, archaeological sites and rich marine life. It is also one of only four islands designated a Pueblo Mágico by Mexico’s federal Tourism Secretariat.

The island’s beaches and reefs stretch across a range of sites, including Punta Norte, Uvas, Paradise, San Francisco, Punta Sur, Bonita, Chen Río, Punta Morena, Isla de la Pasión, Palancar and El Cielo. Diving and snorkeling tours are among the main activities, especially around the Cozumel Reefs National Park, Chankanaab beach, Palancar and El Cielo, a sandbank known for its many starfish.

Visitors can also take transparent-boat tours to observe marine life or travel to Isla de la Pasión, which has a small mangrove forest and an almost untouched beach. Those interested in history can visit the Mayan archaeological sites of San Gervasio, El Cedral and El Caracol, where ancient pyramid bases and partially preserved paintings remain.

Cozumel is also home to Mexico’s only tourist submarine. Operated by Atlantis Submarines, it descends as far as 30 meters and offers views of corals, tropical fish, pink conch, the Mayan octopus, sharks and lobsters.

For travelers seeking theme parks and water activities, Kuzá Beach & Adventure Park offers kayaking, paddleboarding, snorkeling, swimming, four slides reaching up to 26 meters, a lazy river, restaurants, buggy rides and four zip lines. The island has an international airport and direct flights to and from Mexico City on Volaris and Aeroméxico. The flight takes slightly more than two hours. Round-trip fares start at 2,500 pesos on Volaris and 6,962 pesos on Aeroméxico, depending on the season and availability.
