How to remove unpleasant smells and grease from a sink, leaving it shining like new

Vinegar can help remove light mineral deposits, grease marks and soap residue from a kitchen sink, while also reducing unpleasant smells caused by food remains.

The cleaning method requires only vinegar and water. Mix equal amounts in a spray bottle and shake well. Remove food scraps from the sink, spray the solution over the surface and leave it for 10 to 15 minutes. Then scrub with a soft sponge or cloth, rinse with warm water and dry with a clean cloth to prevent water marks.

The method is inexpensive and readily available, making vinegar a simple aid for everyday kitchen care. Regular cleaning can help prevent heavier deposits and water stains from building up.

There is an important exception: do not use vinegar on natural stone, especially marble, some limestone and other materials sensitive to acids. Vinegar can damage those surfaces over time. It must also not be mixed with bleach or other chlorine-containing cleaning products, as the combination can release dangerous gases.

To prevent odors, use a fine strainer over the drain, avoid pouring grease into the sink and wipe greasy dishes with a paper towel before washing them.
