HRT to air special program honoring legendary editor Ksenija Urličić

Ksenija Urličić built television with authority, instinct, and a firm hand. Following her death, Croatian public broadcaster HRT will pay tribute to the influential editor with a documentary titled “Ksenija Urličić: The Steel Lady.”

Urličić belonged to what HRT describes as its “golden generation,” when television served as a window onto the world. Her name became associated with authority and high-quality programming. As a presenter, screenwriter, and editor, she launched numerous series and major television projects, shaped programming for years, and decided who would get the chance to appear on screen.

The tribute emphasizes both her professional knowledge and her instinct for television, something the program presents as impossible to learn from a textbook. She could recognize talent and understand what audiences wanted, while insisting that good programming did not happen by accident. “Entertainment is serious business,” she said, a phrase that came to define the way she approached her work.

The documentary will feature reflections from friends, collaborators, and people who shared her television years, including Tonči Huljić, Ivan Miladinov, Branko Matutinović, Aleksandar Kostadinov, Vlatka Pokos, Emilija Kokić, Tihana Škrinjarić, Tony Cetinski, Ljudevit Grgurić, Joško Lokas, Mirko Fodor, Jacques Houdek, and Daniela Trbović. They will recall what she was like “behind the camera.”

“Ksenija Urličić: The Steel Lady” is scheduled for Thursday, September 3, at 8:15 p.m. on HRT’s first channel, HTV1.
