Hsinchu City establishes Jianhua High School preparatory office, to admit 176 students in 2027

Hsinchu City has officially established the preparatory office for Jianhua High School, its fifth municipal high school. The school is slated to admit its first cohort of 176 first-year students in the 2027 academic year, a move designed to ease the anticipated strain on high school admissions in the coming years.

The city government's high school 'Education Three Arrows' policy includes transforming Jianhua Junior High School into a full-fledged high school and establishing a Waldorf experimental education class, expanding Chienkung High School, and increasing enrollment quotas for a digital experimental high school.

Mayor Kao Hung-an highlighted the city's proactive approach to educational capacity, initiated in 2023. This involved a comprehensive review of population trends, enrollment demands, school facilities, and regional educational resources. The city plans to address the high school capacity shortage in the greater Hsinchu area through various strategies, including increasing class sizes, establishing new schools, and renovating existing facilities. Between 2024 and 2027, municipal high schools are expected to add 32 classes, creating over 1,010 additional enrollment spots.

The Jianhua High School transformation, which began with the establishment of the preparatory office in March, has progressed through planning, review, and final approval. The school will officially operate as Jianhua High School starting in the 2027 academic year, with the Ministry of Education having already consented.
