Hsinchu City Lists 15 Approved Rice Noodle Makers Amid Formaldehyde Scare

Hsinchu City has released a list of 15 rice noodle manufacturers cleared of formaldehyde contamination, seeking to rebuild consumer trust after a food safety scare. The investigation, which began two months ago, focused on potential formaldehyde in rice noodles, a product central to the city's century-old industry.

While 15 businesses and 23 product items were found to be free of formaldehyde, products from Ming Hao Enterprise's 'Nong Geng Pai' brand remain under scrutiny. Four items from this brand still show potential formaldehyde concerns and await further re-testing by independent bodies.

The city government's disclosure of the qualified vendors aims to reassure the public and support the businesses that adhere to safety standards. Over 99% of rice noodle producers in Hsinchu are reportedly committed to upholding the industry's reputation.

This move is crucial for revitalizing the local economy, which has been impacted by the scandal. By highlighting the compliant businesses, Hsinchu hopes to differentiate them from the problematic products and encourage consumers to return to purchasing authentic Hsinchu rice noodles.
