Hsinchu City's inaugural Cultural Fengding Awards honor lifetime achievement and outstanding contributions

Hsinchu City has launched its inaugural Cultural Fengding Awards, a significant new initiative to honor individuals dedicated to preserving, transmitting, developing, and innovating the city's cultural heritage. The first awards recognize four prominent figures for their long-standing contributions.

Master lantern artist Xiao Zaigan, a national treasure, and cultural historian Zhang Denan, also a national treasure, have been posthumously awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award. Both had recently passed away. The Outstanding Contribution Award goes to Liu Jiangbin, conductor of the Hsinchu Youth Orchestra, for his work in promoting traditional Chinese music, and Wu Qingjie, a cultural researcher focused on the Jingshanmian area, for his dedicated historical research.

The Hsinchu City Cultural Fengding Award is an important cultural award established for the first time in Hsinchu City. The first recipients not only represent high recognition of their long-term cultural contributions but also establish important spiritual values and role models for future awards.

The selection committee, chaired by Mayor Kao An-chieh and Vice-Chairperson Wang Hsiang-yu, included esteemed academics and former officials. The city aims for the Cultural Fengding Awards to not only acknowledge past achievements but also to set a precedent and inspire future generations to engage in cultural preservation and innovation.

The award ceremony is scheduled for late September, celebrating the recipients' dedication to Hsinchu's rich cultural landscape. The initiative underscores the city's commitment to recognizing and supporting its cultural custodians.
