Hsinchu County Expands Support for Intellectually Disabled with New Community Living Facility

Hsinchu County is taking a significant step forward in its commitment to supporting individuals with intellectual disabilities by inaugurating a new community living facility in Zhudong Township. This initiative, spearheaded by the Catholic Shi Guang Care Home's Zhuo Zhuo Home, offers a supportive environment for six residents, fostering greater independence and integration into the community. It's a testament to our county's dedication to ensuring all residents, regardless of ability, have the opportunity to thrive.

With 2,493 individuals with intellectual disabilities in Hsinchu County, this new 'Community Living and Life Service Hub' is a crucial addition to our existing network of care. Beyond just housing, the facility provides comprehensive support, including daily living assistance, environmental planning, health management, social network building, and connections to daytime services. This holistic approach aims to empower residents, enhance their quality of life, and alleviate the burden on family caregivers, reflecting our county's proactive stance on social welfare.

Hsinchu County has a total population of 597,235. According to statistics, there are 24,561 people with disabilities, of which 2,493 are intellectually disabled, accounting for about 10% of the county's total disabled population.

This expansion is particularly noteworthy as Hsinchu County now boasts the highest number of community living facilities among non-metropolitan areas in Taiwan, with a total of 15 hubs serving 79 residents. This achievement underscores our county's leadership in developing robust support systems for individuals with disabilities. The collaboration between the county government and various foundations, including the Catholic Hua Guang Social Welfare Foundation, Xiang Yuan Memorial Care Home, and the Happy Fool Social Welfare Foundation, highlights a strong, coordinated effort to serve our community effectively. This is not just about providing services; it's about building a more inclusive and supportive society for everyone in Hsinchu.

The new facility can provide a supportive living environment for 6 residents, including assistance with daily living activities, living environment planning, health management support, social support network establishment, leisure activities and social participation arrangements, daytime service resource linkage, rights protection, and promoting interaction and connection between residents and their families.
