HSS to Probe Vice President's Political Responsibility After Arrest

The Croatian Peasant Party (HSS) has announced its intention to initiate proceedings to determine the political responsibility of its vice president, Marin Mikšić, who was recently arrested. The party stated that a proposal will be made at the next Presidium session to begin this process.

At tomorrow's session of the HSS Presidium, the initiation of the procedure to determine Marin Mikšić's political responsibility will be proposed.

Mikšić, along with former Croatian national football player Dario Šimić, was reportedly arrested as part of a new anti-corruption operation. Unofficial information suggests they are suspected of pressuring Neda Livljanić, former head of the tourism department at the Šibenik-Knin County administration, to illegally obtain a permit for a campsite in Tisno. Livljanić herself has previously been indicted by the USKOK anti-corruption agency for similar offenses related to campsite permits.

The HSS stressed that it respects the presumption of innocence and believes everyone is entitled to a fair and legal process. Therefore, the party stated it does not wish to prejudge the outcome or draw conclusions before the relevant authorities have established all the facts. However, the party also highlighted that political duties carry a special responsibility towards party members and the public.

Pending the conclusion of the political responsibility proceedings, the HSS proposed that all of Mikšić's party functions and his authority to represent or act on behalf of the Croatian Peasant Party be suspended. The USKOK and police conducted the operation on Tuesday, and while official details are still pending, the arrests of Šimić, Mikšić, and Livljanić are reportedly linked to the illegal issuance of the campsite permit.
