Hualien City Enhances Environmental Sanitation to Combat Pests Ahead of Summer

As summer's heat intensifies, Hualien City is proactively implementing comprehensive environmental sanitation measures to safeguard public health. The Hualien City Office has launched extensive disinfection operations across the city, a crucial step to combat the proliferation of disease-carrying mosquitoes, rodents, and other pests that thrive in warmer weather. Mayor Wei Chia-yen, accompanied by local里長 (village chiefs) Lin Chien-chi and Hu Wei-hung, personally inspected the cleaning efforts, emphasizing the multi-pronged approach involving ditch cleaning, pesticide spraying, and rodent control.

As summer approaches and temperatures rise, Hualien City Office has launched large-scale environmental disinfection operations across the city since March to prevent the breeding of disease vectors, rodents, and various environmental pests.

These city-wide operations, which commenced in March, are designed to preemptively reduce pest populations. By targeting breeding sites and actively eliminating pests, the city aims to minimize the risk of disease transmission, such as dengue fever, which is often exacerbated by high temperatures and rainfall. The Hualien City Office's cleaning team is working diligently, understanding that while these efforts might cause temporary inconvenience, they are vital for creating a cleaner, safer living environment for all residents.

From our perspective in Hualien, maintaining a clean environment is a shared responsibility.
