HUG, KICC partner to support regeneration of aging industrial complexes

The Housing & Urban Guarantee Corporation (HUG) and the Korea Industrial Complex Corporation (KICC) have joined forces to revitalize aging industrial complexes across South Korea. The two organizations signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on May 29th to enhance environmental improvements and support regeneration projects within these industrial zones.

This partnership is designed to bolster the government's '4X Transformation' strategy for industrial complexes, which includes initiatives for AI adoption (AX), eco-friendly transitions (GX), youth-centric growth (YX), and new business expansion (NX). By improving infrastructure and fostering these transformations, the collaboration aims to support the government's policies for regional balanced development and national growth.

Under the agreement, HUG and KICC will provide financial and operational support for complex development projects within designated industrial regeneration zones. KICC will approve projects through the 'Industrial Complex Environmental Improvement Fund,' and once permits are secured, project implementers can receive swift financing and guarantees from HUG. This streamlined process is expected to lower funding burdens for project operators and accelerate development.

Both organizations will also establish a working committee to manage the MOU's implementation, explore necessary institutional improvements, and identify new business opportunities aligned with government industrial policies.
