Human remains found in Almaty mountains; recovery operation underway

Human remains have been discovered in the mountains of Kazakhstan's Almaty region, prompting a coordinated response from emergency services. The discovery was made by a group of tourists from Belarus who were trekking in the mountains and stumbled upon the remains on the Severtsov glacier.

It is clear that the body must be recovered from the glacier, identified, and the remains returned to relatives, perhaps even through DNA testing.

The tourists immediately alerted emergency services. According to a woman who posted about the discovery on Facebook, the local Department of Emergency Situations (DES) is awaiting confirmation from the police before proceeding with the recovery. The process involves checking missing persons databases and confirming if an investigation is active.

The Almaty DES confirmed they are aware of the situation and are working with the Police Department. A specialized aircraft from the Ministry of Emergency Situations, carrying rescuers and medical personnel, has been dispatched to the remote glacier site. The operation is particularly challenging due to the high altitude, difficult terrain, and harsh weather conditions.

In cases like this, rescuers work collaboratively; decisions are not made in isolation. We must cross-reference missing persons databases, check if relatives have filed reports, and confirm if there is an active investigation. We are working together with police officers and are currently finalizing the action plan. Our rescuers are ready.

Once recovered, the body will be transferred to the Almaty Region Police Department for identification, which may involve DNA testing. The DES stated that their rescuers are prepared for the operation, emphasizing the collaborative nature of such decisions in emergency situations.
