Human remains found in chest freezer at Alaska home during family clean-up, police probe underway

Authorities in Juneau, Alaska, have launched an investigation into the discovery of human remains found inside a chest freezer. The unsettling find occurred on July 19 when relatives were clearing out a residence on Glacier Highway as part of estate matters following a family member's death.

Responding officers were called to the scene after a family member reported discovering what appeared to be human remains within a locked outbuilding on the property. Upon arrival, officers confirmed the presence of deceased human remains. Investigators have made a preliminary identification, suggesting the remains may belong to an adult male member of the family. Next of kin has been notified, pending formal identification by the State Medical Examiner's Office.

It remains unclear how long the remains had been stored in the freezer. Detectives also noted that no missing person's report related to the deceased had ever been filed with the Juneau Police Department. The remains have been transferred to the State Medical Examiner's Office for an autopsy to determine the identity and cause of death.
