Hundreds of APC members defect to ADC in Sokoto over hardship, insecurity

Hundreds of supporters of Nigeria's ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) have switched to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Sokoto State. The defectors, primarily from Samo Village in Tambuwal Local Government Area, cited escalating economic hardship and insecurity as their main reasons for leaving.

The mass defection, which occurred at the ADC State Secretariat in Sokoto, saw party officials, supporters, and various community groups welcoming the new members. Those who switched parties expressed frustration over the rising cost of living, persistent poverty, and widespread unemployment, stating that government policies had exacerbated the struggles of ordinary citizens.

Insecurity was also a major driver for the move, with defectors highlighting recurring attacks by criminal elements that have disrupted economic and social activities. They noted the significant impact on agriculture, as fear of attacks and kidnappings has forced many farmers to abandon their land or reduce cultivation.

The ADC leadership in Tambuwal and Sokoto welcomed the defectors, interpreting the event as a clear indication of growing public dissatisfaction with the APC. Party officials emphasized the ADC's commitment to inclusive governance, people-oriented policies, justice, and accountability, presenting their party as a credible alternative to address Nigeria's pressing challenges.
