Hungarian Association Stresses Safety in Asbestos Removal

Hungary's National Association of Building Entrepreneurs (ÉVOSZ) has emphasized the critical importance of safety measures during asbestos removal, particularly concerning the health of workers involved in the process. The association stated that the use of appropriate protective gear, including specialized clothing and masks, along with continuous monitoring of the work area's air quality, is essential.

The exclusion of the black economy, unqualified workers, and contractors without proper permits and equipment is literally vital in this area.

ÉVOSZ specifically highlighted the life-saving necessity of filtering out unregistered contractors and those operating without the required permits or adequate equipment. The statement underscored that these measures are not merely procedural but are "literally vital" for the well-being of professionals handling asbestos.

Therefore, the ÉVOSZ Occupational Safety Department urges strict, closed-loop tracking of the waste from the demolition site to specially licensed disposal sites.

From an environmental protection standpoint, ÉVOSZ pointed out that debris generated from the dismantling of asbestos-containing materials is classified as highly hazardous waste. Consequently, the association's Occupational Safety Department advocates for stringent, closed-loop tracking of this waste, ensuring its path is monitored from the demolition site all the way to officially licensed disposal facilities.

It is important that the demolition, transport, and storage of asbestos-containing structures are carried out only by businesses authorized for this activity.

Furthermore, ÉVOSZ stressed that the demolition, transportation, and storage of asbestos-containing structures should only be entrusted to businesses specifically authorized for such activities. The association noted that while complete asbestos removal can take several years, structures containing asbestos pose no danger if left intact.
