Hungary hurt pushes Russell 'past the point of disappointment'

George Russell is at a breaking point following yet another race weekend marred by technical failures. The Mercedes driver described his current state as being "past the point of disappointment" after a gremlin resurfaced during the Hungarian Grand Prix, ruining his race. Russell, who was a pre-season favorite for the championship, now finds himself significantly trailing his teammate Kimi Antonelli.

I am past the point of disappointment now. If I continue to be disappointed with everything that goes on, I will just be disappointed every day of the week.

Russell explained that the issue involved the anti-stall activating unexpectedly, causing the engine to rev erratically just moments before the race start. Despite fighting back to seventh place, the result was a stark contrast to Antonelli's podium finish in third. Russell lamented the "unbelievable list of things that have gone wrong this season," feeling that these problems are disproportionately affecting him compared to other drivers on the grid.

I have got to stay positive ... my pace was as strong as anyone out there, and I haven’t been there for the past two or three races so I will take the positives, but, it is unbelievable the list of things that have gone wrong this season.

Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff took responsibility for Russell's ongoing misfortune, stating, "It isn't good enough." He acknowledged that the team is working diligently to resolve these persistent issues but admitted that another problem had cost Russell valuable points. Wolff emphasized that the team is doing everything possible to rectify the situation.
