Hungary releases 2026-2027 academic year calendar

The Hungarian Ministry of Culture and Innovation has officially released the academic calendar for the 2026-2027 school year, detailing key dates for students, parents, and educational institutions across the country.

Enrollment for first-grade students is scheduled for April 22-23, 2027. The academic year will also feature national assessments in reading comprehension and mathematics for fourth graders. Sixth, eighth, and tenth graders will undergo assessments in reading comprehension, mathematics, science, foreign languages, and target languages. These national measurements are slated to take place between March 22 and May 28, 2027.

For vocational training programs, the academic year commences on September 1, 2026, and concludes on June 15, 2027, for most students. Final-year vocational students will finish on April 30, 2027. The total number of teaching days in the academic year is set at 177. Diplomas for students completing their final year of specialized training must be issued by May 3, 2027.

The calendar also specifies the dates for school holidays. The autumn break begins on October 22, 2026, and ends on November 2, 2026. Winter holidays run from December 18, 2026, to January 4, 2027. The spring break is scheduled from March 24, 2027, to April 5, 2027. The first semester concludes on January 22, 2027, with report cards issued by January 29, 2027.
