Hunger Striker Aristotelis Hantzis Transferred to Intensive Care Amid Worsening Health

Aristotelis Hantzis, who has been on a hunger strike concerning the controversial Prosfigika housing complex in Athens, has been moved to the intensive care unit (ICU) of Evangelismos Hospital due to his critical condition. Hantzis had been receiving care at the G. Gennimatas Hospital for the past 24 hours, with his health described as extremely precarious.

The community of the Prosfigika settlement announced Hantzis's transfer and expressed deep concern over his deteriorating health. Their statement detailed a state of multiple organ failure, including cardiac damage, liver dysfunction, and respiratory failure requiring high-flow oxygen. He is also suffering from rhabdomyolysis, bone marrow suppression, and electrolyte imbalances, all stemming from prolonged fasting and severe refeeding syndrome.
