Huracán defeats San Lorenzo 2-0, closing the gap in historic derby

Huracán secured a significant 2-0 victory over San Lorenzo on Sunday at the Nuevo Gasómetro stadium, narrowing the historical win-loss record in the "world's most important neighborhood derby." Both goals were scored by Jordy Caicedo, with one in each half, adding to his tally after scoring the lone goal in Huracán's 1-0 win against San Lorenzo earlier in the Apertura tournament.

This triumph marked Huracán's first away win against San Lorenzo at the Pedro Bidegain stadium in 25 years. Their previous victory on this ground was a 1-0 win on December 9, 2001, with a goal from Emanuel Villa. The win also improved Huracán's standing in the Torneo Clausura 2026.

San Lorenzo, conversely, suffered their third defeat in four matches, placing them last in Group A with three points. They are currently behind Talleres de Córdoba, Lanús, Estudiantes de La Plata, and Central Córdoba de Santiago del Estero on goal difference. Their previous results in the tournament include 1-0 losses to Lanús and Central Córdoba, and a 1-0 win against Gimnasia de Mendoza.

Huracán climbed to fourth place in the standings with seven points, though their position may change as the fourth round concludes. Their other results include a 1-0 win against Banfield and a goalless draw with Atlético Tucumán, along with a 2-1 loss to Independiente Rivadavia de Mendoza. In the upcoming fifth round, San Lorenzo will host Unión de Santa Fe, while Huracán will travel to face Sarmiento de Junín.
