Hurricane Fausto is intensifying in the Pacific Ocean, poised to become the first storm of the 2026 season to reach Category 2 on the Saffir-Simpson scale. Satellite estimates show sustained strengthening, with winds reaching 74 mph (119 km/h).

Fausto will continue to strengthen during the next few hours and is projected to be the first cyclone of the 2026 season to reach Category 2.

The storm is forecast to move west-northwest, guided by a subtropical ridge. Favorable conditions like warm waters, light to moderate wind shear, and abundant mid-level moisture are expected to fuel its growth. However, Fausto will encounter progressively cooler waters and a less favorable environment over the next 36 hours, leading to a gradual weakening expected by Thursday or Friday.

Meanwhile, Tropical Storm Bertha is crawling westward across the Gulf of Mexico. It is projected to make landfall in southeastern Louisiana by Wednesday afternoon or evening. Tropical storm conditions are anticipated along the coast from the western Florida Panhandle to Louisiana, with warnings in effect for wind and coastal flooding. Bertha's center was located about 50 miles east-southeast of the Mississippi River delta, with sustained winds of 50 mph and a slow westward movement of 5 mph.
