Husband confesses to strangling wife, hiding body in Istanbul forest

A shocking murder case has emerged in Istanbul's Kağıthane district, where 3-child mother Bedriye Karaçay, 27, was allegedly strangled to death by her husband, Volkan Karaçay, 30. Her body was later discovered in a wooded area in Sarıyer Ayazağa.

As far as I remember, I tied the blanket in which I wrapped Bedriye from the feet, head, and body parts and left it in the living room in this state. I went out to my mother-in-law's house on the street two side streets away and told my mother-in-law, Durdane, 'Your daughter ran away from home again.' My mother-in-law said, as always, 'Don't worry, she'll come back.' I then chatted with my mother-in-law and people on the street for about an hour as if nothing had happened.

Following his arrest, Volkan Karaçay provided a chilling confession to police. He detailed how he wrapped his wife's body in a blanket, tied it, and left it in the living room. He then went to his mother-in-law's house, claiming Bedriye had run away. "I told my mother-in-law, Durdane, 'Your daughter ran away from home again.' My mother-in-law said, as always, 'Don't worry, she'll come back.' I then chatted with my mother-in-law and people on the street for about an hour as if nothing had happened," Karaçay reportedly stated.

The incident reportedly began on July 21 around 8:30 PM following an argument at their home. Bedriye Karaçay disappeared, prompting her brother-in-law, Gökhan G., to file a missing person report on July 23, expressing concern for her safety due to her husband's troubled history.

I was arguing with my wife at home. She then called a taxi and left the house. I don't know where she is now.

Police surveillance and security footage revealed Volkan Karaçay leaving his home by car on July 22 at approximately 3:45 AM and driving towards the Ayazağa forest area. He returned approximately seven minutes later. A search of the forest led to the discovery of Bedriye Karaçay's body, wrapped in a blanket, by the roadside. Evidence of animal predation on the body was noted.

I couldn't reach my sister-in-law for 2 days. My brother, who is married to her, is a problematic person. He might have done something to her. I am worried about her life.

Volkan Karaçay was apprehended while attempting to flee to Ataşehir from his Gültepe residence. After processing at the police station, he was formally arrested and remanded in custody pending trial.
