Husband fined for slashing wife's luxury bags over infidelity suspicions

A South Korean man has been ordered to pay a fine of 2 million won (approximately $1,400) after being convicted of assaulting his wife and intentionally damaging her luxury handbags. The court found the 46-year-old man, identified as Mr. A, guilty of assault causing injury and property damage.

The incident occurred in February 2024 when Mr. A became enraged after his wife, Ms. B, went out for drinks with another man. In his anger, he took scissors and cut the handles off eight of her luxury handbags. When Ms. B witnessed this and went to the parking lot, Mr. A followed her and kicked and broke both rear taillights of her luxury foreign car.

Furthermore, Mr. A was also accused of assaulting Ms. B in February 2024, pushing her down and repeatedly kicking her buttocks during an argument about visiting his parents, causing fractures. The court acknowledged the handbag damage and assault charges but ruled that the destruction of the car's taillights was not proven. The court noted that the vehicle was registered in Mr. A's name and he bore the costs of its operation, maintenance, and insurance.
