Husein Sastranegara Airport to Offer International Flights

Husein Sastranegara Airport in Bandung is undergoing preparations to resume international commercial flight operations, serving both domestic and international routes with jet and propeller aircraft. Mohammad Rizal Pahlevi, President Director of InJourney Airports, stated that the airport will also accommodate unscheduled domestic and international commercial flights, as well as non-commercial flights.

The current operations at Husein Sastranegara Airport are limited to domestic propeller aircraft flights within Java. InJourney Airports is actively preparing for the optimization of the airport, aligning with government policy outlined in a letter from the Directorate General of Air Transportation. A dedicated team has been formed to manage the operational readiness, activation, and transition processes, emphasizing safety, security, and service standards.

The preparations refer to the letter from the Director General of Air Transportation, which emphasizes that aspects of security, safety, and service must meet the requirements for optimalization to proceed smoothly and effectively.

Key upgrades include enhancing the Airport Rescue & Fire Fighting (ARFF) capacity from category 5 to 7, involving the addition of facilities like a Foam Tender. Security measures are being bolstered with additional Aviation Security personnel and enhanced equipment such as metal detectors, CCTV, and other security devices. The runway surface will also be resurfaced in certain sections to support jet operations, alongside ensuring the readiness of taxiways and the aircraft parking apron.

The preparation includes adding facilities such as a Foam Tender, or emergency vehicles on the airside, to maintain safety.

Passenger terminal improvements are also underway for both domestic and international areas, aiming to provide a comfortable waiting lounge experience for passengers. These preparations involve collaboration with the Ministry of Transportation, the Indonesian Air Force, state-owned enterprise bodies, and other relevant stakeholders, including airlines and ground handling operators.
