Hyundai Motor Group Partners with Jeollabuk-do and Jeonbuk University to Cultivate AI and Robotics Talent

Hyundai Motor Group is joining forces with Jeollabuk-do Province and Jeonbuk National University to cultivate a skilled workforce for future industries, focusing on artificial intelligence, robotics, and hydrogen energy. The partnership, formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed at the Jeollabuk-do Provincial Government Office, aims to establish industry-demand-driven contract-based academic programs and foster collaborative research.

The initiative is particularly geared towards supporting Hyundai's 'Saemangeum AI Valley' project, a significant investment aimed at building a future industrial ecosystem. By nurturing talent locally, the group intends to enhance the project's execution and sustainability. This approach is expected to create a positive feedback loop, where corporate investment fuels local job creation and contributes to the region's overall development.

The Saemangeum AI Valley project, which is currently being pursued by Hyundai Motor Group, is essential for nurturing excellent talent with mid- to long-term innovative capabilities.

Under the agreement, Hyundai will provide industry insights, curriculum advice, and involve its experts in practical training and joint research projects. Jeollabuk-do Province will offer administrative and financial support, while Jeonbuk National University will lead the development of educational programs and host technical forums. The university will also facilitate the participation of Hyundai employees as guest lecturers and mentors, ensuring students gain close exposure to industry trends and practical skills.

Discussions are ongoing regarding the specific timeline for establishing the contract departments and the extent to which successful graduates will be offered employment with Hyundai. Beyond talent development, the partnership will also focus on joint research and technological cooperation in future industry sectors. This includes plans for a 'Technology Cooperation Forum' where industry and university researchers can collaborate on identifying and executing research projects.

Hyundai Motor Group is investing approximately 9 trillion won (around $6.4 billion USD) in the Saemangeum region to develop the AI Valley, which will feature an AI data center, a robotics manufacturing cluster, a hydrogen electrolysis plant, solar power facilities, and an AI-powered hydrogen city. The group anticipates that this comprehensive approach to talent cultivation and research collaboration will significantly boost the execution and long-term viability of its Saemangeum AI Valley investment, driving a transformation in the region's industrial landscape and contributing to balanced national economic growth.
