Hyundai Steel Partners with DNV to Boost Future Energy Steel Technology

Hyundai Steel is joining forces with DNV, a leading international classification and certification society, to bolster its technological competitiveness in steel materials crucial for the future energy sector. The two entities signed a Memorandum of Understanding on August 10th in Busan, South Korea, to establish a certification system and engage in joint technological development for steels intended for energy transport and storage applications.

DNV, headquartered in Norway, is globally recognized for its expertise in assessing the safety of ships and offshore plants, as well as setting international technical standards. Through this collaboration, Hyundai Steel and DNV will jointly research steel materials for marine and offshore plant use and develop standardized evaluation techniques. Hyundai Steel will leverage its research infrastructure and material development capabilities to conduct tests and analyses on the steel and its welds.

Meanwhile, DNV will contribute its specialized knowledge in international regulations and certification to establish evaluation criteria and provide technical consulting. The insights gained from this joint research are expected to facilitate the standardization of technologies and expand the foundation for international certifications. This initiative is particularly significant as the global energy landscape shifts towards new transport and storage solutions.
