I’m not in same league with other actors — Pete Edochie

Pete Edochie says he cannot name a favourite actor because, in his view, none of his colleagues belongs to the same league as him.

The veteran actor made the comments during a newly released episode of comedian Isbae U’s online show, Curiosity Made Me Ask. Asked to name his favourite actor, Edochie said he could not choose one because he considered himself bigger than all of them.

When asked what he thought of people who believed they were on the same level, he challenged them to identify themselves. “Whoever said they are of the same level with me should come out and say it.”

Edochie did not mention Yemi Solade by name, but his comments came after Solade said he began acting before the veteran actor. Solade had described Edochie as an older senior colleague and repeated the claim during his own appearance on Curiosity Made Me Ask.

Asked about being called a legend, Edochie said he was unsure how people defined the term but welcomed the recognition. “I don’t know the definition of people’s legend, but I’m glad to be celebrated,” he said. He also revealed that he had already established himself professionally before entering acting and eventually retired as a Director of Programmes. Edochie remains one of Nollywood’s most recognisable figures after several decades in film and television.
