Tersy Akpata lands role in New Husbands of Lagos

Tersy Akpata will play Idara, a businesswoman, wife and mother, in the drama series New Husbands of Lagos.

The actress said the character felt familiar because both she and Idara share Akwa Ibom heritage. The role also allowed her to speak Ibibio on screen, an opportunity she especially enjoyed.

Idara is a business owner, wife and mother. I enjoyed playing her, given her background, as I’m an Akwa Ibomite too. Although people assume I’m Yoruba because of my surname, Akpata, if you’ve met me, you’ll attest to the fact that I speak Ibibio whenever it comes naturally.

She added that people sometimes assume she is Yoruba because of her surname, Akpata, but that she speaks Ibibio naturally when she meets people. “Idara gave me the freedom to speak my dialect, and I really loved that.”

Akpata is also known for playing Ewa in the fourth season of Wura. She described that role as rewarding because of the way audiences responded to the character’s story and development. “I am excited that the character resonates with many,” she said. “Playing Ewa has been a deeply rewarding journey, and seeing how strongly the audience connects with her story and growth makes every moment on set worth it.”

In New Husbands of Lagos, Akpata appears alongside Ernest Obi, Linc Edochie, Ese Idia, Casey Edema, Tochi Obika, Keira Hewatch, Chukwuemeka Elijah, Maryann Apollo, Jay Franklyn, Shammah Agah and Oliviasandra Chuma, among others.
