Iași City Hall scales back public lighting reduction amid energy alert

Iași City Hall has revised its plan to completely switch off public lighting between 9:30 PM and 11:30 PM, opting instead for a significant reduction in intensity. This change comes amid a national energy alert and aims to conserve electricity while maintaining public safety.

The measures adopted by CLSU Iași: Economy objective: Maintaining a reduction in electricity consumption by at least 10 MW every 24 hours.

The city's Local Committee for Emergency Situations has decided that intelligent lighting systems, covering about 50% of the city with LED technology, will operate at 50% to 70% intensity throughout the night. For the remaining network, power will be reduced by disconnecting phases. Architectural lighting on city hall buildings and other public structures will be switched off after midnight.

Intelligent public lighting: The tele-managed system (about 50% of the city, on LED technology) will operate at reduced intensity by 50% to 70% throughout the night. For the rest of the network, phase disconnections will be made. Complete lighting will not be turned off, but consumption and luminous intensity will be reduced.

The primary objective is to achieve a daily electricity saving of at least 10 MW. Local authorities have also urged hospitals to check their backup power generators and instructed municipal institutions to minimize electricity use, especially during peak hours from 7 PM to 11 PM. Public transport will continue, but electric buses will only be charged outside these peak hours.

Architectural lighting off: It will be suspended starting at midnight at the City Hall headquarters and at all other buildings/public objectives managed by the municipality.

Recommendations extend to the private sector, with shopping centers advised to dim parking lot lights after closing and limit electric vehicle charging stations during peak times. The Local Police and Municipal Police will increase night patrols to ensure public order and safety.

Safety in hospitals: All medical units in the city are obliged to urgently check the electro-generators and alternative energy sources to guarantee the continuity of medical care in any scenario.
