Iberia Airline Launches New Monterrey-Madrid Flight

Iberia has officially launched its new Monterrey-Madrid flight route, offering three services per week. This new connection aims to bolster travel links between northern Mexico and Europe, with Madrid serving as a strategic gateway for passengers.

We want Mexicans to see us not only as an airline to fly to Madrid or Spain but as the gateway to Europe.

The inaugural flight took place on Tuesday, June 2, with subsequent flights scheduled for Tuesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. The Airbus A330-200 aircraft used for the route can accommodate 288 passengers. María de Jesús López, Iberia's Commercial Director for Network Development and Alliances, emphasized the airline's desire for Mexicans to view Iberia not just as a way to reach Madrid or Spain, but as their entry point to the entire continent.

López highlighted the "premium" schedule, which allows passengers to arrive in Madrid and check into their hotels without needing an extra night's stay. This timing also facilitates convenient connections for travelers heading to other European destinations. Return flights are scheduled to depart Madrid in the afternoon, arriving in Monterrey around 5:00 PM.

Juan Cierco, Iberia's Corporate Director, described the Monterrey-Madrid route as a significant focus for the airline in 2026. He stated that Mexico is a crucial country within Iberia's expansive international growth strategy, outlined in their "Plan 2030." The airline sees immense potential in Monterrey, evidenced by the introduction of this route, which provides approximately 1,800 seats weekly. Iberia's ambition is to increase frequency to a daily flight and further enhance the connection between Mexico and Madrid.
