ICAC told developer allegedly used Perrottet brothers to seek influence

Australia's Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) is probing allegations of electoral funding law breaches and potential corruption linked to fugitive developer Jean Nassif. The inquiry, Operation Rosny, will examine claims that Nassif sought to influence government decisions by leveraging connections with Jean-Claude and Charles Perrottet, brothers of former NSW premier Dominic Perrottet. Counsel Assisting the Commission, Peggy Dwyer SC, stated that phone intercepts suggest Charles Perrottet may have used his Liberal Party position to benefit Nassif's business interests. The fugitive developer, who has reportedly fled to Lebanon, allegedly attempted to use his connection to the former premier to push for the removal of former building commissioner David Chandler. Property developers are prohibited from making political donations in NSW. Dominic Perrottet, who initiated the referral to ICAC, is not implicated in any wrongdoing. Dwyer emphasized that electoral funding laws are crucial for maintaining public confidence by ensuring transparency and attempting to level the political playing field, noting that money in politics can lead to corruption.
