Iceland suffer 37-point defeat to Turkey

Iceland fell 15-1 behind Turkey and never recovered, losing 110-73 in a men's 2027 Basketball World Cup qualifying game.

Turkey led 33-14 after the opening quarter and extended its advantage to 28 points during a one-sided first half. Iceland trailed 60-37 at halftime, despite seven points each from Jón Axel Guðmundsson and Styrmir Snær Þrastarson.

Iceland produced its strongest spell in the third quarter, cutting the deficit to 21 points at 69-48. Turkey quickly answered with a run, however, and led 80-56 after three quarters. The hosts then scored the first seven points of the final period to turn the remainder into a formality.

Kristinn Pálsson finished as Iceland's top scorer with 11 points. Tryggvi Snær Hlinason collected nine rebounds, while Elvar Már Friðriksson recorded five assists. Cedi Osman led Turkey with 17 points, Adem Bona grabbed 10 rebounds and Malachi Flynn had eight assists. Turkey remained unbeaten at the top of the group, while Iceland occupied the bottom spot.
